My name is Dylan. I’m twenty years old, living with my parents. I’m in $17,598.16 of debt, between credit cards and my car loan. The most I’ve got saved at the moment is $551.19 and my goal is to save up enough to pay my car off, which is around $15,000. I’m in the process of paying my two credit cards off. This part of my blog is where I’ll keep track of each step (and misstep) I take towards getting my full independence.
This isn’t going to be one of those picture-perfect finance blogs where the numbers are all clean and the advice feels like it came from a millionaire. I’m not a millionaire. I’m a twenty-year-old young adult trying to get my life together, one paycheck at a time.
I’ll be sharing exactly what I save, what I spend, and what I mess up on. If I blow $20 on fast food when I swore I wouldn’t, it’s going in here. If I pay off a card early, it’s going in here. No pretending, no glossing over the hard parts.
I’m tracking it because I want proof that it’s possible to start small, stay consistent, and end up in a completely different place a year from now. I don’t have a deadline, but I do have a plan—and I’m about to put it to the test.
